In recent years, we’ve been introduced to a number of high-quality mattresses with advanced technology and unique features. The Puffy Mattress, which was recently featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show show, is one such example.

Another good example is of course the Tempur Pedic mattress. Tempur Pedic is without a question one of the most well known mattress brands in the world. They have been one of the primary innovators in the industry, and were the first to introduce the use of memory foam in mattresses. Since their launch over two decades ago, they have continued to develop and release new mattress models and designs, etc.

Both mattress brands are quite comfortable and have more than one mattress model available.

So if you’re stuck deciding between the Puffy and the Tempur Pedic mattress, this review and comparison is definitely for you.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Construction

Tempur Pedic has several different mattress models, and construction of each will vary, but for the purposes of this review, we’ll be looking at the TEMPUR-Adapt model which is their original and one of their most popular models.

1) Cool-to-touch Cover – Every Tempur Pedic mattress comes with a breathable cover. In the case of TEMPUR-Adapt model, it comes with a Cool-to-touch Cover. This cover is made of a soft and comfortable material that is easy to wash in the washing machine, and provides a superior cool-to-touch feel.

The primary advantage that we’ve found is that Cooling Cloud is more cooling due to its structure – the material has the advantage of being one of the coolest foams in the industry. Puffy’s Gel Infused Foam increases airflow around 8x more than standard foam mattresses that you can purchase online, leaving you cool, comfortable and well rested.

Yes, the difference in time is almost insignificant, but we thought its still worth mentioning, especially if you’d like your mattress to contour instantly, rather than taking a little bit of time to warm up.

Comfort is one of the most important things people look for when mattress shopping. That makes sense because if you’ll be spending 8 hours a day in bed – the mattress better be good!

So how did Tempur-Adapt, a mattress with decades of experience and a household name, fare against its newer challenger, the Puffy mattress? In short, you’d be surprised.

During our tests, we felt like the Tempur-Adapt mattress, while comfortable, sank in a little too much.

Puffy on the other hand doesn’t seem to sink as much and feels just right.

Another thing we didn’t like with the Tempur-Adapt mattress is the fact that its foam response times seemed a little too slow for our tastes. We would have preferred quicker response times for better, more immediate support.

Puffy’s foam response times seemed quicker, and as a result, it feels as though you get faster contouring to your body shape, and of course faster pressure relief.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Cooling

This is a tough call to make. Both mattresses offer comfortably cool sleeping surfaces and have carefully designed materials made specifically for optimum temperature control.

It’s fair to say that both brands have nailed this and you are guaranteed a cool sleeping surface with both.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Edge Support

Next, we compare the level of edge support from both mattresses. But first things first, what does edge support even mean?

Simply put, a mattress with great edge support will make you feel supported even when you’re sitting (or laying) near the edge. It won’t just be supportive of your body weight when you’re in the center. The edges will be sturdy and solid, which will not only have a positive impact on your comfort levels, but also on the durability of the mattress.

So, how do the Puffy and Tempur-Adapt fare when it comes to edge support? Our tests revealed that both were quite strong in this regard. It was possible to sit on and lie on any corner of the mattress without feeling unsupported or too unstable near the edges.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Sleep Trial and Warranty

The Puffy mattress and the Tempur-Adapt mattress can both be bought online.

Now, while this means that online buyers cannot physically try out the mattresses before they purchase, both brands have compensated for this by offering generous trial periods. Within these periods, customers can test out their new mattress in the comfort of their own home, and return it for free if they didn’t like it for any reason. Both Puffy and Tempur-Adapt also offer warranties in case of any issues.

Puffy has an edge over the Tempur-Adapt when it comes to the sleep trial period – 11 days, to be exact! With the Puffy mattress, you get 101 days to try out your new mattress and decide whether you want to keep it.

Puffy’s warranty package is also exceptional, with a LIFETIME warranty for every Puffy mattress sold. This is an incredibly good offer in the mattress world, and shows the confidence that the Puffy team has in the quality of their product. They’ve clearly designed and constructed Puffy to last for a very, very long time.

All Tempur Pedic mattresses, including Tempur-Adapt, come with a 90-Night sleep trial.

However, where Tempur Pedic definitely loses out is the length of their warranty.

Their 10-year warranty pales in comparison with the Puffy’s LIFETIME warranty. This means that any problems you may encounter after the first 10 years of owning your Tempur Pedic mattress will be entirely your own to deal with and pay for.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Price

Let’s get to one of the most important elements that buyers factor in when mattress shopping – the price.

Puffy offers two different mattress models. The Puffy mattress is available for $850 for a queen size, while a queen Puffy Lux is $1,495. You can get all sizes from Twin to Cal King.

Puffy is currently offering $300 OFF any mattress, and here’s a price for each Puffy mattress with a $300 discount applied. Please note that Puffy Lux will be a little more expensive than the original Puffy due to having an additional Body Adapting Dual Cloud Layer.

Tempur Pedic mattresses are significantly pricier than Puffy mattresses.

Even the lowest priced Tempur Pedic mattress, Tempur-Adapt — $2,199 for Queen — is almost 3x the price of Puffy — $850 for Queen — as you can see in the pricing table above.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Weight and Size

While the weight of your mattress may not be something you really care about, it is definitely worth considering if you’re planning to unpack and install the mattress yourself, or are planning to move soon.

The Puffy is a little lighter than Tempur-Adapt, and will be a little easier to move around, etc. The queen Tempur-Adapt mattress weighs around 79 pounds, while the queen Puffy mattress weighs around 69 pounds.

During our tests, we also noticed that a Queen Puffy mattress was a tad longer than a Queen Tempur-Adapt mattress.

Tempur Pedic vs Puffy: Our Pick

While Tempur-Adapt and Puffy are both great mattresses, after testing and comparing the different features of both, we came to the conclusion that the Puffy mattress wins over the Tempur-Adapt on several important points.

First of all, in our experience, Puffy doesn’t sink in as much as Tempur-Adapt does.

Another area where Puffy stands out is the quick foam response time. Tempur-Adapt’s foam response times felt a little too slow, while Puffy felt quicker.

We think this is important because the quicker the foam response time is, the quicker you get pressure relief and all the other benefits that come with it.

And how can we not talk about the price? The Tempur-Adapt costs $2,199 which is almost 3x the cost of a Queen-sized Puffy which is $850.

Tempur Pedic needs to consider becoming more competitive on price because brands such as Puffy are offering the same quality of product, for a much cheaper price. We’re sorry, but we just don’t see enough points of differentiation, in comparison to Puffy, to justify paying almost 3x more for Tempur-Adapt!

On top of that, Puffy comes with a LIFETIME warranty vs. Tempur Pedic’s more limited 10-year warranty.

Puffy’s generous warranty package means that the Puffy team will help you deal with any issues you’ll ever face.

The only way you’d ever need to get a mattress replacement is if you accidentally damage it yourself. Think of the Puffy as the ultimate ‘forever’ purchase.

In our opinion, this combined with Puffy’s significantly cheaper price and quicker foam response times, ultimately make it a more worthy investment than the Tempur-Adapt.

And if that’s not enough, the number of positive reviews Puffy mattresses have — over 5,000 5-star reviews and counting — should be enough to convince any cautious buyer.
