We Bought & Tested Saatva and Here’s What We Think

Saatva is a luxury online mattress retailer offering three different varieties of mattresses with varying firmness levels (Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm). You can pick which mattress height is right for you: 11.5” or 14.5”, as well as choose whether you’d like to add a foundation or an adjustable base.

Saatva Construction

Now let’s talk a little about Saatva’s construction, and what makes it stand out from competitors.

All Saatva mattresses come with wrapped comfort coils, foam layers, edge support, and a lush, euro-top cotton cover.

Here’s a breakdown of how each Saatva mattress is made:

1) Euro-Style Pillow Top – Saatva’s mattress top is made from 100% organic cotton which creates a lush soft and breathable material. It’s foam-quilted so it’s gentle and creates great pressure relief along with the fact it’s bacteria-resistant.

2) Foam Layer – Beneath the quilted cover lies memory foam enhancement which is responsible for providing great pressure relief along with continuous airflow.

3) Individually Wrapped Coils – This particular layer consists of wrapped coils which add a bonus to the feel of the mattress and also help provide body support. They also help isolate motion.

4) Foundation Layer – The foundation layer consists of high-density poly foam which adds further support and keeps the mattress in shape at all times. All Saatva mattress materials are eco-friendly and are made from recycled tempered steel as well as eco-friendly foams and organic cotton coverings.

5) Steel Coil Support Layer – Steel coils comprise the support layer which help make the user feel supported. Along with this, they add to the bounce of the mattress and add further pressure relief.

By having steel coils as its support layer, Saatva provides more support and durability than popular alternatives such as Puffy or Leesa, both of which do NOT have a steel coil support layer in their mattresses.

Feel, Support and Firmness

After testing the Saatva mattress, we think that its a good mattress that’s well worth its price.

Unlike popular alternatives such as Leesa, Casper and even our top-rated Puffy Mattress, all Saatva mattresses come with 3 tiers of firmness  — Plush Soft, Luxury Firm & Firm — so you can be sure that you will get that firmness level that you need.

The mattress also provides fantastic edge support, and feels very sturdy and solid.

One thing that we didn’t like was the fact that the mattress was a bit too bouncy for our tastes due to it having a steel coil support layer… but if you prefer a more bouncy feel, then this shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Plus, having a steel coil support layer does provide better support and durability than a typical memory foam mattress provides.

Another thing to keep in mind is that because Saatva comes with a pillow top, the surface will be a bit uneven near the edges.
