We Bought & Tested Leesa and Here’s What We Think

The Leesa mattress is one of the most popular and newer mattress brands in the industry. In a few short years that the company has been around, they’ve managed to build a strong brand with great social values.

Leesa donates 1 bed for every 10 sold, making it a great company to support and cheer for.

Sizes and Price

The Leeesa mattresses are available in six sizes –Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and Cal King.

Please note that newer Leesa models (Leesa Hybrid and Leesa Legend) will be a little more expensive than the Leesa original mattress, due to having better construction and more materials.

Twin: The Twin mattress costs $499
Twin XL: The Twin XL mattress costs $599
Full: The Full-sized mattress costs $899
Queen: The Queen mattress costs $999
King: The King mattress costs $1,199
Cal King: The Cal King mattress costs $1,199

You can also purchase Leesa in installments for as low as $57/mo.

All Leesa mattresses come with a 100-Night trial, and a 10-year Warranty.

Leesa Construction

The Leesa Original Mattress consists of the following 3 layers:

1) Avena Foam – Developed as an alternative synthetic material to latex, Avena foam has been built to have the same properties. Latex can be expensive to produce but it does offer excellent support and responsiveness. It’s also great at staying at a cool and comfortable temperature throughout the night.

Avena foam may not offer the exact same level of support and response as natural latex, but it certainly comes close. The one problem with latex is how long it lasts. It’s not the most durable material out there as it tends to degrade relatively quickly, especially when compared to other materials commonly used within mattresses.

One of the key elements that customers look for in a mattress is durability, and the Leesa team have addressed this with the Avena foam. It has been developed to last for years. In fact, it can even be compared to the long-lasting memory foam in terms of its durability.

For the manufacturer, the major benefit of Avena foam over latex is that it costs a lot less to produce. This means that they can set a more affordable price for customers. The cheaper production does include more chemicals though, which makes it less eco-friendly than natural latex.

One of the interesting things about this Leesa layer is that it is shaped almost like the underside of an egg carton. There are also plenty of holes throughout for ventilation purposes. This prevents too much hot air from getting trapped within.

Now, the design of this layer isn’t one that only the Leesa brand uses. But is it still highly effective for creating a cool and comfortable sleeping surface.

2) Memory Foam – The next layer is made of regular memory foam. It doesn’t include any advanced technology or other materials so there’s not much we can say about it.  However, it is still great at contouring to your body and doesn’t take too long to react to body heat and adapt to your shape. The purpose of this layer is simply to provide a high level of support and contouring that memory foam is famous for.

3) High-Density Support Foam – Finally, the Leesa mattress has a foam base layer for foundational support. It’s made of a high-density foam material and its sole purpose is to support the above layers.

Mattress Cover

Leesa’s cover is made of a soft and comfortable gray, twill fabric. We should also mention that it feels and looks great.

Feel, Support and Firmness

After testing the Leesa mattress, we think that its a good mattress, but not the most comfortable we tested.

In our experience Leesa did not provide a sleeping surface as cool as some of its competitors such as the Puffy mattress.

We also felt that it was not as comfortable as Puffy, although we have to admit it was close.

Leesa’s top layer is made from Avena foam which is great at keeping motion transfers at a minimum. This is especially important as it allows partners sleeping next to each other to comfortably move around without waking one another up.

Overall Leesa provides good comfort for most sleepers, especially those that frequently move throughout the night. As you sink into the mattress, you’ll notice the pressure relief as the foam cradles your shape.

If you lie on your back, you’ll notice your weight is evenly distributed across the mattress for comfort which also creates great edge support.

Purchase and Delivery Process

The shipping is free if you live in the continental United States.

All purchases come with a 10-year warranty and a 100-Night trial, so you can easily return the mattress in case you don’t like it.

Customer Support

Leesa’s customer support team is great. You can reach them via email, live chat or by calling their customer service number.

The Final Word

After buying and testing the Leesa mattress, we think that overall its a good mattress and one of the most comfortable we tested.

It provides fantastic edge support and also provides great motion isolation so your partner won’t disturb you as they move throughout the night.

Like our top-rated Puffy mattress, each Leesa mattress is 100% made in the USA – another huge perk as it supports the US manufacturing industry.

Our biggest issue with Leesa, however, comes down to its cooling properties and warranty.

Not only does Puffy provide better cooling throughout the night thanks to its Cooling Cloud foam, but Puffy also comes with a LIFETIME warranty vs. Leesa’s more limited 10-year warranty.

Puffy’s generous warranty package means that the Puffy team will help you deal with any issues you’ll ever face.

The only way you’d ever need to get a mattress replacement is if you accidentally damage it yourself. Think of the Puffy as the ultimate ‘forever’ purchase.

On top of that, Puffy is a little cheaper, and in our experience, a slightly more comfortable mattress.

The bottom line is that while both mattresses are reasonably priced, are very comfortable, etc., the Puffy mattress is, in our opinion, a more worthy investment than the Leesa.
